Redress Grievance believes that firearms that expel a projectile by combustion ought to be kept out of the hands of unsupervised children and in the hands of only responsible adults. We have no problem with guns that expel a projectile by propulsion, such as a BB gun or a pellet gun. Our model legislation would keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally unstable, and safely in the hands of responsible adults. We believe in the United States constitution and support a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State. Our views recognize that in Alaska people need high powered ammunition to thwart moose and bear attacks in the bush and that a firearms enthusiast in California wants to shoot high powered ammunition out of his semi-automatic assault rifle at the range, both having a loaded Glock .45 on their hip. We believe Stephen Paddock, who perpetrated a mass murder in Las Vegas, had no right to possess special high capacity magazines, or bump stocks, which simulate fully automatic gunfire on a semi-automatic weapon. Redress Grievance will restrict firearms capacity and track purchases of high powered ammunition in an electronic database exactly like pseudoephedrine is tracked to stop domestic methamphetamine production.
Redress Grievance does not believe its model legislation impairs the freedoms of either the Alaskan bushman or the Californian enthusiast, while protecting society from mass devastation.
